Things re looking up for Karl Wallinger’s World Party compared to 4 years ago. He had terminated his long-standing deal with Chrysalis Records/EMI because of their handling of the Egyptology CD release (this CD included the hit “She’s the One”); without his knowledge most of his band and his former label manager produced a near identical version of his song to win Robbie Williams the Brits’ “Single of the Year”. Following this his long-time manager passed away and then Karl had an aneurysm.
The band are now on the second leg of their first US tour in 7 years. After a critically acclaimed SXSW performance, the official tour kicked off in late May with Wallinger joined by guitarist John Turnbull and David Duffy on violin/mandolin. They will stop in SF at the Great American Music Hall on Sat. August 12.
